October Movie Screening Challenge 2022

It's time for the EIGHTH ANNUAL October Movie Screening Challenge! Can you believe it's already October!?!? And that this is somehow the eighth year in a row HorrorHound has swamped over as many possible ideas to piece together (and post) a screening guide for how to plan out your spooky season! The challenge is simple: you to watch one horror film each day of October featuring the following plot devices, characters, or particulars .... what film you watch is up to you, as long as it involves the following each day:

October 1: Kick off the season with a new Streaming horror film!
October 2: It's National Name Your Car day ... (yes, that exists). Watch a film featuring deadly vehicle(s).
October 3: ReWatch the first horror film you recall seeing (or loving).
October 4: Pick out a horror film that takes place in a swamp.
October 5: Watch a horror film that features a masked killer (easy, right?).
October 6: R.I.P. Gilbert Gottfried ... watch a cheesy horror film (or comedy).
October 7: Watch an animated horror movie or Halloween TV special.
October 8: Watch a horror movie based on "True Events"
October 9: Watch something that prominently features phone(s).
October 10: Choose a film based on H.P. Lovecraft's work.
October 11: R.I.P. Anne Heche. Watch a Psycho film.
October 12: Watch a movie that starts with the letter "G" 
October 13: Watch a love story. A horror love story.
October 14: Halloween Ends hits theaters today. Watch that – or one of its predecessors. 
October 15: Watch a horror remake.
October 16: Check out a movie that boasts amazing music.
October 17: Show indie labels love. Watch a movie released by Severin, Synapse, or Vinegar Syndrome. 
October 18: R.I.P. Ivan Reitman. Watch a Ghostbusters film.
October 19: Have one of your friends pick today's movie for you!
October 20: Watch a prequel!
October 21: Pick out a movie from your DVD collection. (Yes. We said "DVD.")
October 22: Watch a horror documentary – or horror film with its commentary track turned on. 
October 23: Watch a film you've never seen before.
October 24: Watch a sequel from your favorite horror franchise. 
October 25: They won't stay dead. Watch a zombie movie.
October 26: It's National Pumpkin Day. Watch something that takes place on/around Halloween.
October 27: GoreHounds night out! Watch the goriest horror movie you can stomach.
October 28: Collect This! Watch a horror film about a killer doll or toy.
October 29: Watch a movie that starts with the letter "P" 
October 30: Vampires ... Watch something with vampires! 
October 31: A holiday ritual, watch Trick r Treat ... Happy Halloween!

We brought back just a couple of our favorite picks ... and tried to come up with some new concepts for this year's challenge. Have fun with the list and email us at with any suggestions you may have for our 2023 list, in 12 short months. Thanks and enjoy your October ... and Halloween!

*If you do not have the ability to watch a specific film type listed above (maybe you don't own one or can't find one or don't have the appropriate streaming service), then you must watch John Carpenter's Halloween (if you fall victim of this clause more than once, then watch the sequels in order, as required, till the list is complete).
