Latest Updates about HorrorHound Magazine!

Updates about HorrorHound Magazine!

We wanted to take a moment to update subscribers and fans of our print publication, HorrorHound Magazine – to answer some of the questions we have been receiving – and give some insight into how the global pandemic has been impacting aspects of the business, production, and distribution.

HorrorHound Magazine issue #83 was completed and printed – and was shipped from our printer over four weeks ago. We have been in contact with our printer to learn more information about these delays – and were informed that the same issues are impacting all of their clients, with reports of four-to-five weeks in delayed deliveries due to both the Coronavirus and the limited operations currently being seen at USPS facilities around the country. We have received reports that subscribers are receiving theirs, but the shipment is definitely spotty at best.

• Stores did receive their shipments of issue #83 and should be stocking shelves, although we have received many reports from fans who have told us that some bookstores who carry HorrorHound are still closed due to the pandemic, or are stocking shelves in extremely limited capacity. But to stress, stores have received their copies.

• We have received reports that HorrorHound Magazine issue #82 (Supernatural cover) is still available at some bookstores (such as Barnes & Noble) who have recently reopened and have not fully restocked shelves with new products. Issue #82 is sold out at www.HorrorHound.com and if you are able to find a copy at retail, it will be your last shot at purchasing it.

• We are currently wrapping up HorrorHound issue #84 and expect it to ship in a couple weeks time. We hope that by time issue #84 ships, the USPS delays will be relieved in some capacity. While HorrorHound Magazine's schedule has been delayed due to the pandemic, we continue to work on the magazine and plan to have all six issues for 2020 finished and shipped before year's end – as well as our Fall Annual!

Updates about HorrorHound Magazine! FULL STORY:

First and foremost, we appreciate each and every reader of HorrorHound Magazine. We are about to celebrate our 15th Anniversary bringing this print publication to life and it is astounding that we would be celebrating this landmark occasion during a global pandemic, which is impacting businesses in such a drastic fashion. We truly appreciate all the support over these years, but especially during these trying times as they impact everyone. Because of the volume of ways the pandemic has impacted the industry, we wanted to take a moment to update subscribers and fans of our print publication, HorrorHound Magazine, in particular – to answer some of the questions we have been receiving – and give some insight into how the global pandemic has been impacting aspects of the business, production, and distribution.

When the government first started to close businesses at the end of March, we had just shipped our 82nd issue to our distributor. Unfortunately, mid-transit, we were informed that distribution would cease indefinitely while store closures were causing backups in storage and fulfillment warehouses (basically – publishers had to shop mailing cases of magazines to distributors because the distributors had nowhere to put them!) Closures impacted not only our print business, but our convention business, as our March Cincinnati convention was delayed to May (and eventually canceled outright). You would think with our crew on lockdown and printers, distributors, and stores closed, that would be the end of it. But Hollywood also closed! Due to delays in releases, nearly our entire issue #83 had to be rewritten in a drastic move (nearly the entire issue revolved around a movie that was no longer coming out!). So we hit the ground hard, and pulled together a Pandemic-themed issue (why not?) complete with a 28 Days Later retrospective.

HorrorHound Magazine issue #83 was completed and printed – and was shipped from our printer over four weeks ago – and we are thrilled with the end result. Unfortunately, there seems to be a major problem with USPS mail, and we have been receiving many emails from subscribers wanting to know where their issues are. We have been in contact with our printer to learn more information about these delays – and were informed that the same issues are impacting all of their clients, with reports of four-to-five weeks in delayed deliveries due to both the Coronavirus and the limited operations currently being seen at USPS facilities around the country. We have received reports of subscribers receiving their copies, so that seems to match with the delayed timetable we received from our printer.

What we can tell you is that stores did receive their shipments of issue #83 and should be stocking shelves, although we have received many reports from fans who have told us that some bookstores who carry HorrorHound are still closed due to the pandemic, or are stocking shelves in extremely limited capacity. But to stress, stores have received their copies. Subscriber copies are in transit – unfortunately we are limited at our ability to know when everyone will finally receive them (our printer said their research suggests USPS should be getting them into people's hands within the week – so we hope that is true). Issue #83 is also currently available on Amazon.com in digital format (for those who enjoy reading their magazines on a Kindle).

We also know that we have received reports that HorrorHound Magazine issue #82 (Supernatural cover and retrospective) is still available at some bookstores (such as Barnes & Noble) who have recently reopened and have not fully restocked shelves with new products. Issue #82 is sold out at www.HorrorHound.com and if you are able to find a copy at retail, it will be your last shot at purchasing it.

We are currently wrapping up HorrorHound issue #84 (featuring a Candyman cover and retrospective) and we expect it to ship in a couple weeks time. We hope that by time issue #84 ships, the USPS delays will be relieved in some capacity. While HorrorHound Magazine's schedule has been delayed due to the pandemic, we continue to work on the magazine and plan to have all six issues for 2020 finished and shipped before year's end – as well as our Fall Annual, which will be focused as a 15th Anniversary Special looking back at HorrorHound Magazine's origin.

We have taken the time since the Pandemic first started to impact our business to look back at the magazine industry and figure out what, over these past 15 years, has been some of the most rewarding elements of the business. And it's always fan interaction. Fans sending us their letters, tattoo photos, original artwork, cosplay and Halloween costume photos, or their collection photos for our recurring Collector Spotlight article series. We know that our coverage of toys, comics, 1980s movies (in particular), and VHS history have been highlights – so we have laid out a great plan for how to lean more on articles about the fandom and collectible industries in the coming years. As well as creating ways to expand our magazine on digital platforms – something we have received plenty of requests for. (We are already available on Kindle, via Amazon.com).

We appreciate everyone for helping HorrorHound reach its 15th anniversary – and we are excited about what's around the corner. And we urge anyone who wants to be featured in a future issue – please mail us your letters, questions, fan artwork, tattoo art, cosplay, or collection photos to mail@horrorhound.com.
