Awesome series! Some of my faves:
Cigarette Burns-John Carpenter
Imprint-Takaashi Miike
Sick Girl-Lucky McKee
Pick me Up-Larry Cohen
Family-John Landis
Right to Die-Rob Schmidt
The Washingtonians-Peter Medak(the only bentley little story put on a screen)
They just dont make television like this anymore. This was a great idea fathered by Mick Garris. Edited:7/29/2010 7:21:47 PM (beerwench)

It was a brilliant idea but I hate Mick Garris's shorts. Season 1 is the ultimate, I have it on Blu-ray after that it was all downhill sadly.

The second season was pretty weak to me. The first season was awesome. Top 5:
1. Cigarette Burns by John Carpenter
2. The Fair-Haired Child by William Malone
3. Incident on and off a Mountain Road by Don Coscarelli
4. Deer Woman by John Landis
5. Pick me Up by Larry Cohen
I liked Imprint by Miike too, but man...just when I thought Audition, Visitor Q and Ichi were brutal...Imprint is easily his most graphic to date and no wonder why Showtime couldn't air it.
I'll throw series two a bone: I liked Brad Anderson's Sounds Like and Argento's Pelts

Cigarette Burns just really blew me away. I think it's the darkest thing Carpenter's ever done. It actually shocked me. It was a little familiar, kind of echoes Polanski's "The Ninth Gate" but it is brilliant.
The Fair Haired Child is just so creepy and enjoyable. I wish I had had time to meet Malone at HHW but I just couldn't get away from the booth long enough.
On and Off a Mountain Road is one that a lot of people usually frown about but I love Landsdale but the things I really love about this film is A: The fact that we see a young female victim (a beautiful one at that) not act like a victim at all--but be a total fighter, giving Moonface a real problem. I thought that was brilliant to see her in flashbacks showing us where she came from and why she's a "survivor." This film definitely influenced me when writing my own film. And B: Ethan Embry playing a total scary badass survivalist and I actually believed him. This is before "Vacancy" so seeing baby faced nice guy Ethan playing such a dark character and pulling it off was impressive to me.

loved season 1, season was a bit weak, but i felt the spin off "fear itself" was very creative.

Jenifer made me puke a little in my mouth.
Too bad Fear Itself isn't coming back. I asked Mick Garris about it at Famous Monsters and it was a creative issue regarding censorship. . . being on network TV and everything. I thought they had some good stuff though.

That one was really hard-core - like the curbing scene in American History X, it has some of the most effective (read - gross out inducing) use of sound to make the scene more horrific.
I have mixed feelings about this show - for every gem like The Fair-Haired Child, there was a dud like Hakel's Tale. Sometimes the best thing about the show was the credit sequence. Although to be fair, that could be said for Tales from the Crypt also.

They are considered short films, not really television episodes from what I recall.
